Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Officers say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report early analysis suggest the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; investigators are not yet aware of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to solve the incident" and have asked to the residents for tips.
An important representative commented the incident left him stunned and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a shooter focusing on residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
